What to expect at your Newborn Photography Session? 

My sessions are very much baby-led so they can take anywhere between two to four hours.  We take your baby’s lead and ensure their comfort and safety therefore we can expect to need to stop for baby to have a feed, a nappy change, a change of clothes if sick and all the rest that comes with a newborn! 

The studio will be warm for your baby’s comfort so we advise you to dress in layers for your own comfort too.

Use of my props, backgrounds and clothing are all included as part of your session.  However you are also welcome to bring any personal items that you would like me to try to include, such as a knitted blanket or cardigan that Grandma has made or a special first teddy bear or even one that has been passed down the generations! 

Before your session, I will discuss with you, which are your preferred colours that you would like me to use.

Baby’s safety is of the utmost importance to me and for that reason, I want you to be reassured that I have invested time into training to ensure that baby is kept safe at all times.

Newborn Photography FAQs

Why should I have a newborn photography session?

Those first few weeks with your baby pass so quickly. A newborn session captures all those precious little details — tiny fingers and toes, button noses, sleepy smiles and those beautiful first family moments — so you can treasure them forever.

When is the best time for a newborn session?

Newborn sessions are best between 5–14 days old, when babies are still sleepy and naturally curled up. If you miss this window, don’t worry — I can still create beautiful images up to around 3 months old.

When should I book my session?

It’s best to contact me after your 20-week scan so I can add your due date to my diary. I only take a limited number of bookings each month to allow flexibility for early or late arrivals.

How long does a newborn session take?

Sessions are completely baby-led and usually take 2–4 hours. There is plenty of time for feeds, nappy changes, cuddles and settling.

What should I bring?

Everything you need for your baby’s photographs is provided. Props, backgrounds and baby clothing are all included however you are welcome to bring some personalised items, such a favourite soft toy or rattle etc and I’ll do my best to include what you bring with you. We’ll also discuss your preferred colours before your session. You are also welcome to provide an outfit if you would prefer to, please discuss this with me at the time of booking so I can offer appropriate advice at the time of booking.

Will the studio be warm?

Yes. The studio is kept warm and cosy for your baby, so we recommend dressing in layers to keep yourself comfortable.

Is my baby safe during the session?

Absolutely. Your baby’s safety is my highest priority. I have invested in specialist newborn training to ensure your baby is handled and posed safely throughout their session.

Can we have family photographs too?

Of course! Your session can include beautiful family portraits, as well as special photographs with older brothers and sisters.

What if my baby is older than 3 weeks?

Don’t worry! I can still create beautiful images up to around 3 months old, adapting the session to suit your baby’s age. After this, I offer tummy time, sitter and standing sessions.

What packages do you offer?

I offer three packages to suit different budgets, with the option to add beautiful wall art to display your favourite images in your home.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes! Newborn photography makes a beautiful baby shower gift. Gift vouchers are available so you can give an expectant parent an experience and memories they’ll treasure forever.
